dont get chickens to teach your dog to herd they wont stay

shelter. My nest boxes are about 6 inches off the ground. You probably only
need two. You need to rake out the pen every couple of weeks minimum
unless you are going to let them roam some. I have 12 mixed cochins & 15
buff orpingtons. They pretty much have the run of our place but I still
have to muck out the pen once in a while. I also keep a light sprinkle of
sevin dust in the boxes to keep out lice & mites. Hope this helps.
